Summer Ends!

Mommy keeps saying that summer is over. It doesn't feel that way to me. I'm still wearing shorts and t-shirts, going on walks, and playing outside. Maybe it has something to do with the big kids starting back to college. Well, it's supposed to be 90 degrees all week so that still feels like summer to me. I'll hold on to it as long as I can. Well maybe 78 degrees would be a bit more comfortable, but at least it's not 15 degrees!

I've decided that I really like the summer. Here are a few of the firsts I've had this summer:
1) Swimming in Lake Champlain
2) Riding in a row boat--that was lots of fun
3) Riding my truck outside on the deck and in the driveway
4) Swimming in my little kid pool
5) Gardening with Mommy
6) Playing on the front porch with Greta and Gabi (Aunt Susanne & Uncle Paul's dog and Oma & Opa's dog--we dog sat a lot this summer--I love dogs!)
7) Riding with Mommy on her bike
8) Roasting marshmallows over a fire (there was adult supervision)
9) Put put golfing--I did pretty well too!
10)Going to the park
11)Tearing apart our kitchen
12)Strange people in our house working on our ceiling and on cabinets--what's going on???

The list could go on and on. All in all summer is fun fun fun! Following are some photos of the summer activities. Enjoy!

So here's how Mommy and Daddy tried to keep me safe during the kitchen demolition. I wanted to help!

Even Gabi (Oma & Oma's dog who was staying with us for a few weeks while Oma and Opa were traveling in Europe) wanted in on the action.

Daddy wasn't sure what he was pulling out of the walls of our 1920 home. Later we were told it was harmless insulation.

Finally Mommy and Daddy let me help with the measuring. I love the tape measure!

When Oma and Opa returned back to the states the Kurtzes came over for dessert and pictures. Here they are acting--well, like the Kurtzes. I love my crazy cousins and aunt and uncle!

Gabi is now back home in Ohio. I miss her. I still go around the house, shake my finger and say "No, no Gabi!"

Gabi was great about cleaning up after my meals. Now Mommy and Daddy have to take care of that. I am trying harder to be a neat eater. I still love to throw my food when I am done though. Mommy and Daddy don't seem to appreciate that. Hmmm?!?!

This photo and the next are from our Church's Service Day. Great Grandpa Kurtz would be sooo impressed with Daddy and me on the payloader. Daddy actually drove it (with very close supervision).

Mommy spent most of the day chasing me! I enjoyed the day!

Today I turned 19 months! Mommy sang happy birthday to me and I liked it. I also had my 18 month doctor's visit. I'm up to 25 words now. Thanks to Aunt Susanne and my cousins, I now know where my hair, eyes, nose, month and ears are. Mommy taught me hands and feet already, but I'm excited to have hair, eyes, a nose, mouth and ears. Now mommy keeps saying tummy and pulling up my shirt. Not sure what that is all about.

So, I'm 31 3/4" tall and weigh 24.6# I'm at the 30th percentile in each area. Mommy keeps thinking I'm heavier than I really am. I got a sticker at the doctor's office and got to watch the fish in the big clear box of water. I always like watching the fish.

One and a Half Years Old!

"Owie!"

Hi Everyone!

Mommy is calling today, "the day after!" The day after what you ask? My first trip to the Emergency Room. Mommy hopes it's the first and last!

It all happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. last night. Mommy was making my dinner, turned off the burner and turned around long enough for me to reach over and touch the (what Mommy called HOT) burner. Needless to say I screamed for a good 15 minutes and then groaned for the next 45. Mommy called the after-hour number at the doctor's office and the nurse encouraged Mommy to take me to the emergency room and give me some Tylenol. Well off we went and WOW was there a lot to look at and watch in the emergency room. Lots of crying children, some happy (I was actually feeling much better by the time we arrived at the ER), some running around, some lying in beds with lots of "ropes" coming out of them. There were also BIG flowers and BIG bugs all over the walls, and a giraffe, monkey and I forget the other animal. There were also lots of cool toys to play with, but Mommy would not let me touch any of them. She kept saying "germs!" Still not sure what germs means. There were lots of interesting sounds and sights--grown ups dressed in white, blue and flowers racing about. Mommy was glad for all the activity as it kind of entertained me for the 3 1/2 hours we were sitting on a hospital bed in the hallway waiting and waiting and waiting. Finally, after 2 nurses, one resident, one burn doctor and one social worker and one smear of petroleum jelly on my 2nd degree burned finger and thumb I was on my way home with Mommy after 11:00 p.m. I fell asleep in the car.

Well today, I am feeling pretty much back to my old self just with a blistery finger (see photo at the top). I did feel well enough to take a ride on my horse. I can rock all by myself now. I think I make Mommy and Daddy a bit nervous though!

On Tuesday night Daddy and I got back from a great visit with Timmy and Sarah and Aunt Lucy and Uncle Mike. I had lots of fun and Daddy did a good job on his own. Mommy had a huge program at the college, so Daddy and I escaped the house for a few days. Daddy took a few photos of Timmy, Sarah and I hanging out.

At the end of May, Mommy, Daddy and I visited Mimi and Papa for Memorial Day weekend. Papa showed me the ropes on the rider mower and Mimi let me help in the flower garden. I also got to wade and throw rocks in Lake Champlain. It was so much fun.

Last week was very hot here in Churchville. Mommy splurged (a whole $7.00) on a kiddie blow up pool. I really like playing with it. Not so much playing in it though at this point. I kept myself very busy taking buckets of water out of the pool. What fun!

Oma and Opa also made a quick visit on their way to Canada a few weeks ago.

This weekend we are going to see two firework displays, one with the Wandels and one with Che-Che, Uncle Mike, Caleb and Hayden (who's growing up fast!). Watch for those photos in my next note. I'm looking forward to being with all of the Kurtz/Termer Cousins. Summer time is a lot of fun.

Just so you don't worry about me, I'm going to try hard not to touch any more HOT burners. In fact, Mommy says no more standing on the stool at the kitchen counter. Bummer!! Maybe when I'm older she'll reconsider.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Hi everyone! It's hard to believe it's Memorial Day Weekend. Tomorrow morning we are headed northeast to visit Mimi and Papa for the weekend. I think we might even see Uncle Steve up there too! I can't wait.

Earlier this month was Mother's Day. Some nice ladies at church took "old fashion" pictures of all the kids and then gave them to the moms on Mother's Day. Mommy really loved this photo of me.

Also on Mother's Day, Oma and Opa were at our house for a visit. Our house was full of moms. We had a nice Mother's Day cook in. Daddy grilled a pork loin and it was tasty. We also had some amazing corn on the cob. Mommy cut the corn off the cob for me and yum yum yum yum it was gooooood!

Opa loves our wireless when he comes to visit. I like sitting next to Opa and trying to mess up his computer. I think in this picture Opa was playing a train video for me.

In my last blog I showed you how I was helping Mommy cook. I still love to help her cook (and Daddy too). This photo was taken after I was finished helping Mommy make a pie crust. It looks like I'm wearing a good bit of the flour. It was fun though!

This spring I am big enough to ride the bike with Mommy and Daddy. The biggest challenge was wearing that silly red duck hat. I hate wearing hats and this hat especially is hard and not very comfortable. Mommy said I had to wear it or we could not ride the bike. So, I put it on and when I thought she wasn't looking I took it off. As soon as it was off, Mommy stopped the bike and put the hat back on me. We went round and round like this several times until I finally gave in and kept it on my head. Now I'm pretty good about keeping my bike helmet on. After all, I do love going on bike rides.

Daddy calls me "Little Guy" all the time so Oma and Opa and Aunt Lucy and Uncle Mike both got Daddy and me Little Guy and Big Guy shirts for Christmas. They are fun to wear and I think we look pretty good in them.

Mommy enjoys working in the garden so this year she's been letting me "help" her. I love playing in the dirt--soooo much fun! Here I'm using a tool, but usually I just dig right in with my bare hands. We planted 95 annuals this year and Mommy has also started a small veggie garden in the back yard.

We had a beautiful April this spring and therefore had beautiful flowers this May. We went to Highland Park several times this month to see the lilacs and other flowers.

For cousin Eli's birthday present this year, we took him on a birthday date to a puppet show on Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. It was a great show. Eli liked it and I even stayed attentive for most of the show. We went out for ice cream afterward--I liked that too.

Eli stayed overnight with us after the birthday date. Eli was my first sleepover friend. We had a blast! Mommy took this photo before we woke up--can you find me perpendicular at the bottom of the crib. I get around in my crib at night!

Mommy came to wake us up in the morning. She got me up first and changed my diaper. Then she put me down on the floor in front of Eli's bed and I said, "Eli, Eli, Eli." Eli woke up, jumped out of his bed and came over and gave me a BIG hug. Cousin Eli is the best!

This week Cousin Hayden and Che Che came to visit. Hayden's three months old now. Eli, Hayden and I had a very nice visit. I am very blessed with great cousins.

Well as May ends, I'm looking forward to lots of adventure this summer. I'm not sure what that all will be, but I'm confident that it will all be exciting.
